MVW Rules for Molten Series

A few questions have come up about protocol and I will attempt to answer those now

2021 Molten Series at Midwest Volleyball Warehouse

COVID-19 Policies

  • Masks must be worn 100% of the time unless drinking water or getting a quick bite to eat on the mezzanine during break (no food is allowed on the court). Plastic face shields are not an acceptable alternative for players due to safety concerns, but may be worn by a coach in addition to a face mask.
  • Frequent use of hand sanitizer is asked by everyone present.
  • Maintaining as much social distance as possible is asked by everyone present.
  • Water fountains have been turned off.  Please bring your own water or water bottle to the building.  Water bottle fillers are still available.
  • Each team may bring three coaches and one scorekeeper into the facility. They will be asked to sign-in at the front door. This is non-negotiable. We encourage teams to limit their roster to 10-11 players max.
  • No individual (player, coach, official or staff member) should attend the Molten Series if they are actively showing any symptoms of COVID-19 or have been knowingly exposed to anyone with a positive COVID-19 test, or who is actively showing symptoms.  Symptoms include but are not limited to sore throat, fever, coughing, shortness of breath, or lost of taste/smell.

Schedules & Match Rules

Schedules are available online at results.TM2sign.com for the Molten Series Courts inside MVW. The entire schedule for the Molten Series can be accessed at www.advancedeventsystems.com. They are also available on several monitors throughout the building. Please check the schedules carefully!

Teams will play 3 matches in approximately 3 ½ hours. The schedule will be Play, Play, sit for 20 minutes, Play.

Start times for the first match will begin at approximately 8am, 12pm and 4pm each playday.

Each four-team pool will play on two adjacent courts.

There is no officiating team. An R1 will be provided. (More details below)

We will play by USAV rules. We will play best 2/3 sets. The first two sets will be played to 25 points where you have to win by 2 points. The third set will be played to 15 points and again you must win by 2 points. Teams will not switch sides during the match.

End time for matches:

Match 1: Warm-ups are mandatory. Match will begin as scheduled. Play until there is a winner.

Match 2: As soon as both courts finish match one, they will switch courts accordingly and start match 2. There will be no warm-up for match 2.

After match 2 finishes on both courts, a maximum 20 minute break, but no less than a 10 minute break, will be given before starting match 3. There will be no warm-up for match 3.

Please exit the building as fast as possible – the next wave of teams cannot enter the building while you are still inside.

Warm-Up Format

Warm-up for all matches will be the standard 10-minute warm-up format that is used at all National Qualifiers and National Championships.

  • 2 minutes shared warmup
  • 4 minutes for the serving team
  • 4 minutes for the receiving team

During warm-ups, teams are not allowed to ball handle while the other team has exclusive use of the court. This applies to all court surfaces and spectator areas.

Volleyballs

The balls used for the league will be Molten Soft Touch.

Please do not bring outside volleyballs to the warehouse – they are not needed.  We will provide 12 warm-up balls on each court for you to warm-up with. One of the warm-up balls will be used as the game ball.

When warm-ups are done, all volleyballs must be placed back in the carts and the carts put in between the team benches. Players who are not playing, or their siblings, friends, etc… may not use the volleyballs.

Bags

All bags must be taken upstairs and put on a rack (preferably on a rack above the court you begin on that day). Any team that has bags on the lower level, or on the upper level, not racked will be required to stop play and move their bags.

Admission & Streaming / Cameras

Under the current State of Minnesota Reopening Plan and COVID-19 restrictions, no spectators will be allowed inside Midwest Volleyball Warehouse.  Entrance will be restricted to players, coaches, officials and administrative staff needed to run the playday.  If changes are made to the State of Minnesota Reopening policies and spectators are eventually allowed, you will be notified.

Streaming of the matches at Midwest Volleyball is done through MVPCast. https://app.mvpcast.com/ppv

Officials

Metro Volleyball Officials Association will be supplying certified R1 officials for all matches for the league. There will be no R2 Officials or line judges. R1 officials will make all the calls for the match.

Each team must supply one person into the building each weekend to keep score. This person can be a parent, coach or player. There will be a very simple score sheet for this person to mark off each point that is scored in each game and a blank to put the final score in at the end of the game. The person supplied by the other team will run the electronic scoreboard and make sure that the score is correct. Both of these people will be seated above the court in our mezzanine area 6 feet away from each other. The same person for each team will do this for both matches. There will be no switching who this is between matches.

All scorekeepers will be required to sign in and sign a packet of waivers before entering the building. Scorekeeper (1 per team) must sit at the table. Coaches (2 per team) must sit on the bench. Under no circumstances will two individuals from the same team be permitted to sit at the score table.

Substitutions

Substitutions will occur normally with the R1 allowing the substitution in the absence of an R2. We ask that players stand on either end of the substitution zone during the substitution.
